I work in a variety of media. Visually, I experiment with opposites: energy and stillness, the finished and the unfinished, spontaneity and deliberation. I am motivated to create something more than surface art, to do work that withstands multiple viewings and interpretations. My artwork can be about revealing what is hidden: the artist’s mind, the world of the subject, the raw, the veiled, the unspoken. I am interested in my subject’s complexities, in what causes people to behave the way they do, and in the ways people interact with each other. I'm also fascinated by the subtle but unavoidable demands of functioning—acceptably and unacceptably—in one’s society.
I received my B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Purchase. I have since studied art and various subjects at The School of Visual Arts, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Columbia University.
